There are two ways of looking at this image for me. One, the scale in which the fungi compares itself to the tree and two, the trunk - it kind of draws you into the image. I guess it depends on the viewer what this image makes for them but for me I look at it in the two ways I have just mentioned. Thanks for sharing.

absolutely intriguing perspective, ashwini. love the way shallow dof makes it so dreamy 'n powerful enough to draw us there. also like the way circles repeats themselves from focused mushroom to those up high making the tree.

Very interesting use of DOF here Ashwin, I would have prefered greens where the sky is to convey the mood of the monsoon.

i feel in such images the form and colour of the the out of focus background should be given equal importance like the subject...me too wish the white was replaced by green in the background...

Ashwini, shallow DOF does give a nice feel to it. The white of the sky is overbearing and competes for attention with the mushroom. A tele-macro would have given you a better control over the BG. You used a wide-angle macro lens for this. That's an interesting choice. Any thoughts on that choice of lens? Curious to know.

Ramesh, I had a tele-macro with me but the narrow angle of view was looking quite boring honestly. Hence I decided to experiment with wide angles. In the wide angle macro shots what dictates many a times is the relative size of the subject in the frame compared to the surroundings. As this was a wide angle macro lens the effect of DoF behaves in a little different and funny way compared to the conventional wide angle lenses. I was enjoying that and in the attempt of making some interesting images using that funny DoF I made this image as well.
